The traditional excursion of the ROeS will take place on Thursday afternoon. Of course, all delegates are welcome to join the hike.
Explore the favourite recreation area of the Viennese on a hike through the Vienna Woods ("Wienerwald").The Vienna Woods were designated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, in 2005. This status protects - where needed ‐ the natural and cultural elements that make the Vienna Woods so special. At the same time, it promotes sustainable economic development of the region. Nature, culture, economy and education are the pillars of diversity in the ”Biosphärenpark Wienerwald”. Typical for the Vienna Woods is its great diversity of landscapes. The different climatic and geological conditions in the Vienna Woods are the reasons for a wide variety of forest types. There are more than 20 types of forest in the biosphere reserve.
This year’s ROeS excursion will take us from the famous wine village Grinzing in the west of Vienna along one of the many city hiking tracks (“Stadtwanderweg 2”) to the Hermannskogel, a peak within the municipal area of Vienna. Afterwards we will walk down to Neustift am Walde, another one of Vienna’s charming and romantic wine growing villages surrounded by soft hills and vineyards. The tour ends at the wine tavern ("Heurigen") Fuhrgassl-Huber where the Conference Dinner takes place. Alternatively, you may continue on your own and enjoy rustic and authentic style wine taverns – owned and managed by the same families for generations, offering excellent wines from their own production and delicious local Viennese specialties!
Please bring sturdy shoes and a rain jacket. Organized transport to Grinzing from the conference venue. Individual return from Neustift am Walde by bus "35A".
